Across west Africa, diamond land Sierra Leone probably has the best
beaches. Clean and clear sand, very little litter and the blueest sea,
and that’s without retouching. Amongst other amazing landscape features
and great people, the country has remained in the dark as far as being a
tourist attraction.
In the past few years of editing I’ve seen many attempted fashion
events surface acknowledgement on social media that never managed to be
executed. Till today there has hardly been a major fashion event that
has taken place in the country. Yet, travelling to Sierra Leone from
neighboring African countries is one of the most expensive to enter.
Also a lot of organizers were heavily affected by the ebola tragedy.
Not that the contracted it, but facing curfews, city lock downs,
societal fear of socializing, set back the fast growing entertainment
culture building.
Now with zero cases of the illness, can the people of Sierra Leone
pick up where they left off. Well the effort has already began with the
announcement of Freetown Fashion Week!
Images for the event was event was recently published by Salone celeb
and former Miss West Africa International queen Hawa Kamara as posted
above. The posts seemed to accumulate a lot of attention and it is
definitely something foreign participants should considered being
involved with.
The reason being is, despite the political and poverty contradictions
in Sierra Leone, the entertainment sector is usually heavily funded by
the government. Not only that, but with a very rich mineral resource
land, there are lots of major established companies with very little
activities to sponsor, so when they do, they give a lot.
And lastly, one more amazing thing about the country is its safety,
probably the only country in West Africa where none of the police carry
guns. I am not doing a tourism plugin, but I just see a great country
where entertainment, especially in fashion, could be haboured. Will keep
our eyes on this event.
