As the fashion week in Milan winds to a close, Africa is gearing up for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The line-up is a fierce one with regulars like David Tlale, Ruald Rheeder, Fabiani, as well as Nhlanhlan Nciza of music group Mafikizolo
who is debuting there for the first time. The 3-day event is set to
kick off tomorrow, Friday 5th – Sunday 7th March 2015, at the Melrose
Arch, Johannesberg, South Africa.
At the event, some of South Africa’s top designers will reveal their Autumn/Winter 2015 collections, hosted by Melrose Arch and African Fashion International (AFI).
According to the spokesperson for AFI, Sizwe Nzimande – “We
want to provide the international fashion community with a glimpse into
the unique and innovative nature of African design and creativity”.
“At
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg 2015, our primary focus will be
fostering the creative independence of talented new artists emerging
from South Africa, and providing retail opportunities for these
designers within a global consumer-base. We want to provide the
international fashion community with a glimpse into the unique and
innovative nature of African design and creativity“.
The
event is set to have models from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana,
Barbados, USA, Jamaica, Angola, Australia, Brazil, Sweden, Russia and
Uganda in collections from SA’s top designers.
