MADE IN ETHIOPIA:SNEAKERS BY PASSPORT ADV

Passport ADV (Articles de Voyage ) is the brainchild of Ethiopian-American designer Mikhayel Tesfaye. He launched the brand in 2009 with an exclusive Passport ADV collection for Adidas. After discovering the premium grade of leather and suede that were produced in Ethiopia, Mikhayel made the critical decision to move his manufacturing base from Asia to Africa in 2011. Passport ADV is a testament to the idea that it is possible to produce luxury goods in Africa without compromising on stye, quality or craftsmanship. The sneakers are distinguished by Mikhayel’s bold use of fish skin, sheepskin and even handwoven textile into his footwear.

Mikhayel first honed his design skills in New York in the 1990’s, while holding senior level design positions at such companies at Ecko Unlimited, Phat Farm and Rocawear. In addition to obtaining professional experience, Mikahyel Tesfaye has travelled the world in an effort to research fashion trends on a global scale, which is why he chose the name Passport ADV for his brand. He cites Japan, Hong Kong, India, Paris, and of course, Ethiopia as some of his favorite destinations and also as the cities that have most inspired his work. As a trend-specialist and lifelong sneaker collector, Mikahyel predicts PassportADV will represent his most exciting venture to date.
He sells his sneakers online at www.passportadv.com and at his flagship store in Los Angeles Passport PHC 310 N. Stanley Ave. LA, CA 90036 (Sneaker prices range from $160 to $325)
